How do you choose the correct fiber for your new Carpet?

I need new carpet for my family room.  What is the best carpet?  What will wear the best?  What will not stain?  Can I spot clean it?  Does it have to be professionally cleaned?

These are just some of the questions you need to ask before choosing the right carpet for your home.  Your Flooring Professional should be able to answer all of these questions and help you select the best carpet for your location.

Nylon is used to make carpeting.  Nylon has a high abrasion quality and stands up to resistance, has strong retention, and is great for high traffic areas. Nylon will retain the shape once it walked on. Nylon also is a great value for your money.

Polypropylene has great stain resistance. Polypropylene uses a liquid to dye the fibers and the coloring goes though the fibers and is a petroleum base.  Oil based stains will be hard to get out. This may not be your best selection for light color carpet in high traffic areas.

The oldest carpet fibers are wool. Wool wears along time and feels comfortable. Soils and stains are a problem for this natural fiber.  Wool is a more expensive choice and has a great feel.In low traffic areas this would be a great choice.

Depending on the area where the carpet is going to be laid at will depend on the fiber of the carpet. Remember cheap carpets are good but quality carpeting will save you money in the long run.
